Chill The Build is a bipartisan group that maintains local city zoning restrictions should be applied on all multi-family and other developments. Local MB zoning is in place to prevent urban sprawl while maintaining a quality beach character that is cherished by our community. Our charter is to protect local zoning.
What we stand for
While Sacramento wants to force local communities to increase housing by forcing one-size-fits-all density laws (first passed in 1979 and then amended in 2021), we hope to form a coalition to have the community have a voice and work with the developer to meet increased housing quotas and make a reasonable rate of return, while not disrupting the lifestyle of the existing community. Can we work together rather than having outsized developments crammed into our limited available land?
We prefer a common sense approach to working with the community and developers for the common good of the neighborhood.
We are pro-development of additional housing in Manhattan Beach as long as it fits within the guidelines established by the city for other residential development.
We are pro-inclusion of low-income housing as a portion of a residential construction development.
We are pro-rental units to make Manhattan Beach accessible to a broader population.
We support a developer’s investment in our community as long as the development contributes to the financial burden placed on the city to accommodate the increased traffic burden and safety issues on local streets, provides ample parking for residents and their visitors, and mitigates the environmental impact.
We welcome an influx of 70-120 new residents and staff that will contribute to our local businesses.
We welcome new development that works with the city and local residents and sustains the unique “small town” feel and quality of life, that brings amenities accessible to all.
